Dr. Charlotte Moats-Gallagher

Charlotte joined the University of Oregon in February 2018 to help advance the mission of the Division of Equity and Inclusion. Prior to joining UO Charlotte worked in higher education for more than 15 years serving in roles including Director of International Degree and Education Abroad, Director of International Research and Development, and Director of Women in International Development. She has an enduring interest in women’s’ leadership and in actively building a climate where people feel welcome and want to stay.

Chief of Staff

Kelly Pembleton, as Chief of Staff to the Division of Equity and Inclusion (DEI), supports the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, and provides strategic leadership for DEI and its units: Office of the Vice President, the Center on Diversity and Community, the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence, and the Multicultural Center. Kelly came to the university from Chicago, where her career of nearly twenty years has focused on international human rights and nonprofit strategy and operations.

Meet Tracy Bars

Tracy Bars has worked at the University of Oregon since 1998. Prior to coming to DEI in January 2017, she held staff positions in the Lundquist College of Business and the College of Design.

Tracy was raised on the Oregon coast and tries to return to the beach every chance she gets. In her free time enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Meet Samantha Maddox

Samantha graduated from Northwest Christian University in 2012 with degrees in Psychology and Music Ministry.  While there, she pursued a career in academics by working with the International Masters in Business Administration Program, and became passionate about social justice and equality.

In her off work hours, Samantha is involved with teen mentoring groups and non-profit organizations, locally in the state of Oregon as well as nationally. Samantha is a published composer, and enjoys reading, playing piano, and spending time on the Oregon Coast.

 

Angeli Brooks

Angeli is the Events Coordinator for VPEI. Prior to joining the DEI staff, Angeli worked in a medical clinic and at a financial institution. 

In her free time, Angeli enjoys being with her husband and kids. With her Caribbean background, she enjoys going to the beach, being outdoors, traveling, and photography.

Meet Ruth Huang

Ruth Huang  (She/Her/她) joins the Division of Equity and Inclusion with 6 years of experience working with students in secondary and higher education. As a Program Associate, Ruth collaborates with campus colleagues and community partners to facilitate student success programs for underrepresented students and develops opportunities that enrich and build community. Ruth discovered her passion for working with students during her undergraduate years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and then later pursued a master’s degree in education at Seattle University.

Abigail Leeder

Abigail currently serves as the Manager of Experiential Learning in the Division of Equity and Inclusion at the University of Oregon. Since joining UO in 2005, Abigail has led multiple social justice programming efforts including peer education initiatives, personal storytelling programs and efforts aimed at deconstructing white identity. Abigail volunteers regularly as a DEI search advocate and partners with campus leadership on strategic initiatives related to DEI and staff recruitment and retention.

Meet Rosa Chavez

Rosa is a first-generation college student and grew up in Oregon. 

Alma Mater:

Rosa is a “Double Duck.” She has a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in International Studies and Spanish and a minor in Environmental Studies. She also earned her JD from the University of Oregon School of Law.

What is your best advice for a student just starting at the University of Oregon?

Norma is a first-generation college student and a transfer student, who earned her AAOT from Chemeketa and her Bachelor’s degree in General Social Sciences from Portland State University.

What is your best advice for a student just starting at the University of Oregon? 

Find community, find an advisor and go to office hours: You don’t have to do this alone.

Meet Kiana Youssefzadeh

Kiana is a first-generation student, transfer student, and a Double Duck! Kiana received her Bachelors from UC Davis and both a Master’s degree in French and a PhD in Romance Languages from the UO. 

What is your best advice for a student just starting here at the University?

As a first-generation college student, Jones proudly earned her bachelor's degree in Public Relations at the University of Oregon.

Do you have any special skills, talents, interests, or hobbies?

In her free time, Madison enjoys discovering local eateries, photography, solo traveling and spending quality time with her cat, Ophelia.

Jorney earned her bachelor's degree in Family and Human Services and Public Relations from the University of Oregon in 2023 and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Couples and Family Therapy at the same institution.

If you didn’t work in the CMAE what would you be doing?

Mike Murashige

Mike Murashige is a Writing Consultant working in CoDaC to consult and coach faculty and graduate students on a variety of writing projects. Mike earned his BA, MA, and PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was a Distinguished Teaching Assistant and University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellow. He was a member of the Department of Literature at the University of California, San Diego and has worked both as a writer and consultant in the non-profit world and as a developmental editor and writing coach
