Our Stories, Our Communities: UO Diversity

There are so many diverse stories and communities that we hail from at the UO. We are a place where people from different cultures and experiences learn together. Understanding and respecting these differences are critical for the University to be a place of open-minded inquiry where, in challenging the boundaries of knowledge, we include and value all members of our community. The “Our Stories, Our Communities: UO Diversity” project highlights the rich diversity found at the UO, affirms all of who we are as students, faculty and staff, and celebrates the strengths of a multicultural community.

UO DEI photographer and oral historian Mickey Stellavato took a series of black and white portraits of diverse students, staff and faculty across campus. We asked each subject:

  • Please introduce yourself (Name, major/year, area, department)
  • Where is home?
  • What does your community at the University of Oregon look like?
  • What experiences  have you encountered at the University of Oregon and how have you handled them?

We will be introducing and featuring a number of these UO community members each month and hope to continue the project into the future.
