Multicultural Academic Counselor, Native/Indigenous Student Retention Specialist (Home Flight Advisor)

Julia Polk is the Native/Indigenous Student Retention Specialist (Home Flight advisor) for CMAE. Julia has over ten years of working in education with the Yakama Nation Tribal School and Heritage University.  She is from a small town called Wapato, WA and is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation. Julia, a full-circle scholar, earned her bachelor's degree in social work in May 2022 from Heritage University. Currently, Julia is a graduate student in the UO’s master’s in science, Education Policy, and Leadership program, graduating in June 2024. Julia is compassionate, supporting, and eager to provide advocacy for Native American students at the UO.

Julia has four daughters. The oldest attends Haskell Indian Nations University, and her younger three are in elementary school. For Julia, education is a field that feels like a home where she wants to provide advocacy and support to all Native/Indigenous students from Pre-K through post-secondary.  Outside of work, Julia enjoys spending time outdoors, playing sports for funzies, attending UO sporting events, going to concerts, karaoke, and wants to try kayaking this spring.
