Ixchel Verdugo (she/her/ella) is the Multicultural Academic Counselor & Latine/Chicane Retention Specialist. She is a double duck with a bachelor’s degree in Educational Foundations and a minor in Ethnic Studies and a Master’s degree from UOTeach in Curriculum and Teaching. Before jumping into advising, she was a first-grade teacher in the 4J school district and an assistant teacher in the Migrant Education Program. From there she went on to work at the University Career Center and the College of Education before joining the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence. Her diversity, equity, and inclusion roots run deep—thanks to her family she had the opportunity to be a part of marches and demonstrations from a very young age, which gave her a whole new outlook on the challenges and successes of her community. Ixchel has lived in many places including California, Arizona, and Puerto Rico. On her free time, she enjoys dancing, hiking, attending cultural activities, and listening to music of all kinds.
