Victoria DeRose joined the University of Oregon in 2006 as Full Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry. As Director of the Center on Diversity and Community (CoDaC) and Associate Vice President, Division of Equity and Inclusion, Vickie will continue the Division’s partnerships with Academic Affairs around diversifying and developing faculty and CoDaC’s capacity building initiatives with departments, colleges, schools and research units across campus. Her work will include a focus on CoDaC’s faculty and student Writing Circles, Faculty-in-Residence, faculty development workshops on equity and inclusion, and a range of training programs, professional development workshops and public events. She will also partner with others in DEI and the Schools and Colleges to provide support for the Diversity Action Plans.

Vickie grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. She attended the University of Chicago for her BA in Chemistry, received a PhD in Chemistry from the University of California-Berkeley and held a postdoctoral position at Northwestern University. Before coming to the University of Oregon, Vickie was a faculty member at Texas A&M University (1995-2005). Among other awards she is a Cottrell Scholar, an NSF CAREER Awardee, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the a UO Fund for Faculty Excellence awardee. In 2004, she was the inaugural Distinguished Women in Science Lecturer at Stanford University. Her research interests have focused on metal interactions with biomolecules. Currently, her research group is investigating targets of metal-based anticancer compounds using chemical biology approaches.  Her laboratory has hosted over 20 PhD students and many more undergraduate researchers over 22 years.
